WebAug 10, 2024 · The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is getting rid of names of space objects the federal agency believes to be “insensitive” and even “harmful,” according to an announcement posted on its website last week and updated on Monday. Two names, “as an initial step,” being nixed are Eskimo Nebula and Siamese Twins Galaxy. WebFollowing the nation-wide uproar over racial injustices in the US, NASA said it would reevaluate and fix some of those names. In fact, the space agency has already removed two racially-charged nicknames: Eskimo Nebula and Siamese Twins Galaxy. The former was a moniker given to planetary nebula NGC 2392, which is the remnant of a Sun-like star.
