Sure, zbrush is better, but you can do realistic or stylized sculpts with blender which are good enough and that for free with a tool that can do more than zbrush. Look at the course of cg cookie with realistic portraits or look at flycat. The remesher in the sculpting tool isn’t really there to get less polygons.

You can lower the mesh detail setting, then when combined with the smooth tool it will actually lower the amount of vertices in the mesh. You can then "erase" a whole hand for instance. In addition to that you can mask areas of the mesh to work on.
